America’s U.S. Teen ~ Melanie Shaner, age 14 • Overland Park, KS

I am so thankful to have this opportunity! Not very many teens my age get this chance to represent the country and I am so happy that I can do it along with all of my sister queens – I could never have asked for more! There are so many new things that I get to do this year. It is going by pretty fast but I have enjoyed every minute of it. I am also excited for all of the opportunities to come.

My favorite memory of pageant weekend was meeting all of the girls. I think that the most important part of pageant weekend is meeting as many people as you can and having fun, whether you win the title or not!

Of course I want to grow up, get into a good college, and later get a job. But beyond that, I believe that it is important for me to not be afraid to take risks. I don’t want to have any regrets, and by stepping outside of my comfort zone I believe it is the key to becoming successful in life.
